The Cathedral of Tbilisi is commonly known as Sameba. It is the main Cathedral of the Georgian Orthodox Church situated in the capital city of Georgia. The Holy Trinity Cathedral is the third-tallest Eastern Orthodox cathedral in the world and was constructed between 1995-2004.

Sameba has some Byzantine undertones and is a mixture of traditional styles dominating the Georgian church architecture at various phases in history.

The idea of building a new cathedral aimed to commemorate 1.500 years of autocephaly of the Georgian Orthodox Church.In 1989, an international contest was announced for the "Holy Trinity Cathedral" project by the Georgian Orthodox Patriarchate and the authorities of Tbilisi. After the submission of more than a hundred projects no one won. At last the design by architect Archil Mindiashvili won.

The Holy Trinity Cathedral is built on the Elia Hill. It is above the left bank of Mtkvari river and is in neighborhood with historic Avlabari in Old Tbilisi. The cathedral is designed in a traditional Georgian style but has exaggerated vertical emphasis. The Sameba Cathedral has a cruciform plan and a dome resting on eight columns.
